Omar Abbad is of Palestinian descent but presently lives in Jordan. He obtained a BA in Musicology (specialising in oud) from Jordan Academy of Music in 2002, followed by an MA in Musicology from Yarmouk University in Irbid. He founded and conducts the Al-Nagham Al-Aseel ensemble, and composes and arranges for groups such as the Awtar Amman Ensemble and Children’s Ensemble for Arab Music in Jordan. He has also worked with Al-Hannouneh, a group that specialises in Palestinian folk music, as well as a number of well-known Jordanian singers. Abbad is currently a full-time lecturer at Jordan Academy of Music, but for the last few years he has also conducted the ASWAT arab music ensemble concerts in the Bay Area of California.
