Hakan Aydınlık began his oud studies with Serhan Aytan, and went on to study at the Istanbul Technical University State Conservatory of Turkish Music, participating in the orchestra and playing solo works by Şerif Muhiddin Targan. He subsequently accompanied numerous vocalists and instrumentalists, participated in Mevlevi sufi rituals, made several recordings and also appeared on radio broadcasts. After leaving the Conservatory, Aydınlık taught for four years at the Haliç University's Conservatory and one year at the Yıldız Technical University's Faculty of Art and Design, and also gave oud lessons at Boğaziçi University. He has given many concerts at home and abroad, and is currently working on an oud method. He generally plays a special eight-string oud which he designed himself, and is also proficent on the tanbur, lavta, piano, cello and bass guitar.
