Hassan Al-Badri
حسن البدري

Hassan Al-Badri was born in Basra in southern Iraq. He began playing the oud at the age of 18 and soon afterwards enrolled at Basra University to study theatre. In 2001, however, he was forced to leave Iraq due to the deteriorating situation there and he moved to Norway, eventually settling in the city of Bergen. It was there (under the name Hassan Mahdi) that he joined the group 'Naheddi' with Iraqi percussionist Amir Saion and flautist Adama Barry from Burkina Faso, and the trio recorded their first album in 2005. However, the following year he formed a new duo 'Gilgamesh' with Saion and they released their debut CD 'Tigris Nights' in 2008.
