Ahmet Bektaş

Ahmet Bektaş was born in Turkey, but since 1981 he has been living in Essen, Germany. He began playing the darbuka during childhood, and then moved on to saz and guitar, before finally settling on the oud. Around 1990 he joined up with the German guitarist and songwriter Pit Budde to form the 'Radio Ethiopia' project, a blend of Turkish and Ethiopian music. Bektaş has since moved more towards jazz, performing original compositions with his group 'Araname', which features his brother Ömer on percussion.
