Biography

Huosain Sabsaby was born in Syria into a family of musicians, and he received his first music lesson from his father at the age of six. He went on to study at the Arabic Institute of Music in Aleppo, and later took lessons with the famous buzuq player Mohammed Abdul Karim and a variety of Turkish musicians. Another important influence on his style of oud playing was the Iraqi virtuoso Munir Bashir. Sabsaby has been active in promoting the oud both at home and overseas, performing solo and with a wide variety of other musicans in Europe, the Middle East and the USA. He has participated in numerous international festivals, recorded a dozen CDs and composed music for Syrian television dramas. He is also an extremely talented oud maker and has developed a worldwide reputation for his beautifully crafted instruments. He currently lives and works in Damascus, Syria.
