Tetsuro Shibayama


Tetsuro Shibayama was born in Nara Prefecture, Japan in 1975. He began playing the guitar at the age of 17 and two years later he enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA to study jazz. After graduating he returned home to Japan and spent the next decade performing in Tokyo with various groups. He also began to develop an interest in the oud and Turkish music, which eventually led to him travelling to Turkey and spending three months studying with oud master Necati Çelik in Istanbul. He also took part in a number of concerts while he was in Turkey. Since returning to Japan, he has been playing an active role in the emerging Turkish music scene there.

Turkish Oud

Tetsuro presents some of the most beautiful pieces of Turkish classical music as well as a few of his own compositions. He is accompanied on several tracks by Hirotaka Kondo on darbuka.
