Christos Tsiamoulis
Χρίστος Τσιαμούλης

Christos Tsiamoulis was born in 1961 in Athens, Greece, where he studied music theory at the Athens National Conservatoire and guitar with Lisa Zoe. However, in 1980 he was introduced to Greek traditional music and instruments by the group of Simonas Karras, which determined the future course of his musical life. In 1985 Tsiamoulis founded the group 'Dinameis tou Egeou', making several recordings with them and touring Europe, the United States and Australia. After the group split he launched his own career, collaborating with artists from both traditional and contemporary musicial backgrounds. In 1990 he received his degree in Byzantine music after studying under Lykourgos Aggelopoulos; by this time he had also been teaching traditional instruments in various different music schools for several years. In 2003 he joined the staff at the Athens National Conservatoire to teach the history of Byzantine and traditional music, and the following year he was appointed head of the Department of Greek Traditional Music. He has recently published a book on the numerical modal system of Greek music.
